CALL FOR ABSTRACTS NOW OPEN

Gold Coast City will proudly host the International Urban Design
Conference 2007. The theme will be WAVES OF CHANGE - CITIES AT CROSSROADS.

You will be challenged to examine National and International towns and
cities. Those experiencing a wave of population growth and economic
prosperity must address the consequences on the environment and on longer
term social well-being of their communities.

The wave of environmental challenges affects all communities through
global warming and coastal communities through likely sea level rises.

The ability of urban centres world-wide to cope with the impacts of high
level fuel costs may demand a change to the concepts and layout of cities
as we know them.

Day one of this three-day conference will face these challenges head on.

Day two will show how to use DESIGN to meet the challenges by offering
models both local and international that will recharge your optimism for
the future.

Day three will concentrate on HOW TO BUILD the capacity and the
capabilities of communities, politicians and policy makers to effect the
necessary changes for a more sustainable and better future.

The conference will feature national and international key-note presenters
and include workshops, debates and tours of Australia's fastest growing
City, showcasing the attributes of a premier tourist destination, from
tall buildings to medium density housing to the hinterland "Eco-village"
development.

The conference Gala dinner will include the Bi-annual Gold Coast Urban
Design awards for 2007.

This conference will be of interest to:
* Design professionals
* Architects
* Engineers
* Development industry
* Policy makers
* Politicians
* Senior public servants
* City Governance personnel
* Social planners...and those in the community who are keen to learn
what's working well here and internationally in tackling the challenges
which confront fast-changing communities.

We welcome abstracts that are relevant to the theme. They can be
submitted online at http://www.astmanagement.com.au/urbandesign7 where you
will also find more information about the conference.
