Public Art Design Competition -- Playground
PUBLIC ART COMPETITION TO CREATE PLAYGROUND
A national public art competition is being held to create an innovative playground on Newcastles harbour foreshore.
The public art playground will be located in Worth Place Park which will become a feature at Honeysuckle, one of Australias largest urban renewal projects.
Worth Place Park is part of the $300 million Lee Wharf development project. Retail shops, offices, restaurants or cafes will open onto the park and playground.
The Worth Place Playground is an exciting opportunity to create a major artwork in specific response to Newcastles distinctive maritime and industrial history and setting.
The competition is open to designers in a range of professions from public artists to landscape architects. Designers are also able to collaborate on a submission.
The total budget for the public art project is $195,000 including promotion, design, construction and installation.
Design submissions need to address a range of criteria, will be assessed by an expert selection panel and are due by 5.00pm Friday 23 June 2006.
A design brief and resources is available on www.honeysuckle.net from 19 May.
