Cartoons do what photos can't
Over in Belgium, UNICEF has released an adults only Smurf cartoon in which the entire Smurf village is destroyed by a bombing raid. Apparently we are becoming a bit connditioned to seeing photos and film of war zones, and so are not as shocked as we should be.

It seems to have worked, probably for its novelty factor (there will be now end of "Blue Screen of Death" puns. It underlines the ability art in the right place has to elicit reactions that CNN and Fox never will.

How they annihilated the SmurfsSmurfs scatter and run before being felled by blast waves and explosions. The final scene shows a scorched Baby Smurf sobbing inconsolably.
The final frame bears the message: "Don't let war affect the lives of children."

UNICEF spokesperson: "We have never done something like this before, but we've learned over the years that the reaction to the more normal type of campaign is very limited."
