Ken Livingstone spoke for Londoners – his ability to articulate their diverse interests and culture as entirely separate from those of the capital city is a secret of his success – when he vented his anger at the `attacks on ordinary, working-class Londoners, black and white, Muslim and Christian, Hindu and Jew, young and old’ and when he celebrates London as somewhere where people could `just be themselves.’
