In June 2007, students from RMIT School of Architecture and Design and RMIT School of Property, Construction and Project Management travelled to Hoi An in Quang Nam Province, one of the poorest regions of Vietnam. They worked in collaboration with students from RMIT's Vietnam campus to prepare final design concepts for an at-risk youth housing building project.

The brief is to deal specifically with the problems caused by annual typhoons, floods and climatic issues. It is hoped that the project will be the start of a long-term collaboration and that the final design will set an innovative and environmental benchmark for future buildings in this flood prone area. Project organisers will use the best aspects from each of the student designs in coming up with a plan for a shelter to be built next year.
