Anonymous
edited January 2005 in architecture
For those who haven't heard SUBAUD is running a competition based around Robin Boyd's first home for himself and his family. The tumultuous history of the house has been well documented in the press.
There is a site visit this saturday the 15th of January and another on Monday. For more information visit.

I've checked out the site. I think the competiton is a great idea, but isn't it a bit limited in it's scope, in that it is based around such a difficult site? WOuld it not have made it easier to be propositional if the site had less restriction?

You're right; it would have made it easier to be propositional. However, the restrictions associated with the site are very real and are part of what makes the site an interesting test case for investigations into the assumptions we make about heritage buildings. Admittedly the site has added restrictions but we believe that it is in attempting to find a viable solution that schemes are moved o be propositional in their very nature.
