Placemakers - GOMA
The Placemakers Exhibition is currently on at GOMA. It has been curated and researched by Dr Miranda Wallace of GOMA and carefully presents a number of local architects' work incrementally revealing a distinct Queensland identity.
Models, drawings, studies and videos illustrate completed projects and the architect's (and sometime the client's) thoughts. Perhaps the most memorable is a video of Rex Addison describing the house he designed through the slow death of his son from a brain tumor. An unforgetable story.
Arts Queensland generously sponsored Placemakers - leaving only one logo visible -rather than the usual noise of gold/silver/bronze hangers-ons.
Oh yes, and a delightful hardcover book is a beautiful souvenir of the exhibition - no cheap catalogue, no stupid bag. A must see:
