Rudd announces new Disarmament Commission

Yesterday, the Australian Prime Minister made an announcement that brings the possibility of a nuclear weapons free world so much closer. Kevin Rudd announced the establishment of the "Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Commission", an international body that would build policy and political momentum towards the 2010 nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference. It will include an international conference in Australia next year.

THANK YOU for being part of the building of the momentum towards this goal. Please TELL THE WORLD! Write to our Prime Minister and congratulate him on his leadership. Please also write to your newspaper or call your radio station to tell them that abolishing nuclear weapons is not utopian - and you are going to help make it happen! The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, which AFP is a part of, will work to ensure that this Commission considers fully the merits of a Nuclear Weapons Convention, and is able to hear a range of voices in establishing their positions.
