competitions? design forces?

In Turkey, there are serious discussions on Urban Design and Landscape Architecture competitions. Recently, the Chamber of Landscape Architects decided to kindly punish its members to join an LA competition because of the Jury, had no LA. Also, the Chamber of Architects did the same thing about an Urban Design Competition, they published that “competitions are not the tools to conquer government land".
I am curious if you have that kind of problems about competitions, and may be solutions?

    I've always wondered about the real value of competitions - there are so many hours of wasted effort for so many. I wonder is a tender process or panel selection process would be more effective.
