I would like to start using pdf technology when submitting plans to council. Does anybody have any ideas what is out there & what to look for in a pdf tool?

I use PDF995, from www.PDF995.com It supports large format printing, is simple to use, and there is a free version which is fine if you don't mind pop up ads.

I think there are open source pdf writers available too, not sure where though

PS I will shift this topic into the 'architecture' section when I remember how. The links section is just for good external links you know of.

    thanks for your feedback Peter....

I have been doing a little more research & have found another product called pdfDocs.

pdfDocs seems to have a few more extra features which could really help what I am trying to achieve. It allows me to collate documents together add annotations, date stamps & re-arrange pages of the pdf document.
It is also produced & supported in Australia which is obviously helpful.

It is an inexpensive product $110 for one user but I would still like feedback from other architects to find out what they are using as I would like to roll out a product for the remaindr of the office.

For those of you who are interested in the research I have done their business is located at:-

    www.businessprophet.com.au

I also spoke with a representative there which I think is unheard off with an IT company

I think I have struck gold! If you look at my previous post about pdfDocs.....

I have spoken with them further & they said that I can trial out the software for 6 months with no obligation. Apparently they specialise with Accountants & Lawyers but what they do when breaking into a new market segment like architecture is offer 10 firms trial versions to ensure they cover all the requirements.

Well I was the 5th Architecture firm on their books which was great for me...I guess that means there are 5 more spots for the rest of you...good luck!!

BTW the person to speak with is Shaun Lock, number is (02) 8270 8500...he's seems switched on & pretty relaxed about it all.

PDF995 stopped working so I've switched to PDF Creator, which is open source and pretty good once you get used to it. No ads too. It doesn't have preset page sizes over A3 but you can set them manually and it should remember the setting.

This link goes straight to the download page as hard to figure out otherwise. If you want it for windows, the get the GNU file.
